BART WORKERS LAUNCH WEBSITE TO INFORM PUBLIC ABOUT POSSIBLE
STRIKE
RunBARTRun.org features Twitter updates on public strike
actions
OAKLAND — With one week to go before BART’s union contracts
expire, BART workers have launched a website to keep riders and the media up to
date about public events related to a possible strike action that could disrupt
BART service throughout the Bay Area.
The website — RunBARTRun.org — features:
• Our new commercial explaining how BART management refused
$TK In federal stimulus money while asking workers for $100 million in
concessions;
• A calendar of public events by BART workers as our
contract grows close to expiration;
• Links to our Twitter site for the ultimate in current
information on news and events;
• Sen. Don Perata’s statement that the airport extension
development favored by BART officials is simply too expensive while transit
service is being cut;
• BART workers campaigns to stop waste and identify cost
savings to preserve quality public transit service.
On Thursday, June 25, BART workers represented by SEIU Local
1021 will vote on whether to authorize their bargaining team to call a strike
if necessary.
This is not a vote to go on strike! BART workers are committed
to exploring all other options and to strike only as a last resort if options
do not open up. BART management refuses to consider extending the current
contract and has asked Gov. Schwarzenegger NOT to grant the unions a
cooling-off period if an agreement is not reached in time.
These actions can only result in a showdown, and BART riders
will pay the price. SEIU 1021 members — and all BART workers — are committed to
keeping BART running safely, cleanly and efficiently. Find out how at:
