BART Workers of SEIU 1021 APPROVE Tentative Agreement
New contract avoids layoffs and furloughs
(Oakland, CA) Bay Area Rapid Transit's largest union, Service Employees International Union 1021 has APPROVED the tentative agreement by 75%. By ratifying this agreement, SEIU 1021 members delivered on a promise made five months ago that they would help close BART's $310 Million projected budget deficit.
Lisa Isler, president of the BART chapter of SEIU 1021, said her members were willing to step up and make sacrifices to help BART balance the budget during this tough economic period. The agreement keeps BART running safe, clean and on time.
The new SEIU 1021 contract avoids layoffs and furloughs; foregoes raises over the next three years in favor of bonuses; reduces benefits; cuts the use of overtime; and changes work rules.
